The Grind of the Small Business Owner: Embracing the Weekend and Night Hustle

As I write this Sunday morning with my faithful companion Coco, my corgi the office dog snoring loudly under my desk, I'm reflecting on the crazy hours I’ve had to put in this week as a small business owner. I find myself working many weekends and late into the night way more often than I would like.

The reality of business ownership is A TON of hustle, especially when you first get started. Building any business from the ground up takes blood, sweat and tears. And quite a few weekends and all nighters too it turns out!

One your business will be self-sufficient and you’ll have a great team handling operations.

It’s always tempting after a long week to blow off responsibilities and binge Netflix all day Saturday. But envision your goals of growing your business into a thriving company supporting your family. Trading short term relief for long term regret is never worth it.

So while Coco snores blissfully unaware (oh to be a dog!), Be at my laptop pushing ahead on deliverables due Monday. Be no stranger to takeout dinners eaten alone in front of your screen well into the night. But these small sacrifices pave the path I want to be on. Many wouldn’t trade this entrepreneurial journey for anything.

My advice to fellow entrepreneurs burning the midnight oil or working another weekend shift: tune out the FOMO of fun being had without you. Have faith your efforts now will allow YOU to set the schedule you want later, whether that means more weekends off or the flexibility to work when and where you want. Our hustle paves our future freedom. Now it’s time to brew another pot of coffee and get back to it!
